Ian's Surly "Monster F*cker"
So for those of you that know Ian, you are already aware that he is a very "special" young man. For those of you that don't, this bike might give you some idea of what we are dealing with. He started classes at Drexel University this September, majoring in Engineering. This brings us to the "Monster F*cker", his latest creation. Take one Surly Steamroller frame, one DMR 20mm through axle fork and a whole bunch of parts that were never intended to go together on the same bicycle. It is essentially a fixed gear monster cross bike, this is what bike geeks do in the winter to ammuse themselves...

Protect Those Fancy New Wheels!
In an effort to make the lives of the thieves more difficult, and your bike safer from said thieves, I am going to try and offer some tips on fortifying your steed.
First and foremost, most people are using Mini Ulocks that can at best lock your frame and maybe your front wheel. If this is the case, you can pick up one of these 5" padlocks with removable shackle to lock through your seatstays keeping your rear wheel from being easily removed. These can be purchased for under $10 at most hardware stores, and we are also keeping them in stock at the shop for $9. I first saw this being used in NYC in the mid 90's by messengers as a fast and cheap method of rear wheel security. Most ULocks and even Chain Locks will handle frame and front wheel, but as Jesse will tell you, don't overlook that rear one.
Check back for more tips soon!

SE Landing Gear Forks in stock!
Once was lost, but now is found!
So tuesday evening some kid comes in asking for some air, I recognized the wheels as having been stolen from Jesse Johnston about a month ago. I offer to fill up the tire for him and proceed to take the tire off the rim to reveal my signature, date and customer's name. He claims to have purchased the wheel from Mexi-Bike on 9th and Ellsworth. After informing him he could not have his wheel back he left carrying the rest of his bike on his shoulder. If he did in fact buy it from the shop i feel sorry for him, but when you are buying cheap used parts from anybody there is a risk that it is stolen. Or he stole it himself and is just trying to cover his ass and blame it on somebody else. We might never know for sure. But the moral of the story is, stealing is a sin. Thou shall not covet thy neighbors wheels.
